KIng of the Canyon - Yukon's XC Championships
Another year has officially lapsed with the running of the KOC on Saturday September 19, 09, and we couldn't have asked for a finer day to call the season to an end - beautiful, sunny, cool, and did i say beautiful. I'm not sure if our participants saw the beauty out there as they were busy hauling ass and cramping up at the end, most on the 47 Km full course starting and finishing at Schwatka Lake Recreation Area.
Participation numbers were low this year, but that didn't stop the few that dared to challenge the yearly epic. The 24 km short course was won by Evan Wise with a time of 1:45:25, followed by Geof Harries at 2:11:40.
Youngster Dave Gonda claimed the crowning of KOC for the full course with a time of 3:06:09. Closely behind were Jonah Clark at 3:08:28; Ian Parker at 3:08:49; Marcus Watrus at 3:12:16; Honza Galac at 3:47; and Petr Polivko at 3:54:01.
Aspecial thank you goes out to Icycle Sport, Philippe’s Bicycle Shop, Sports Life, The Fruit Stand, M&M Meats and Yukon Brewing Co.

Dirt Park - NOW OPEN
A huge shout out to Devon McDiarmid, Mike Steevely, Jen Meurer and Kate White for their hard work and efforts that have made this park a reality! Thanks guys!
Come on out to Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre - North of the Sumanik Drive Bridge (in the vicinity of Nighthawk and Olympic Trails) and check it out. I suggest you bring your bike. And when you're done, head on down to Icycle Sport and tell them, "hey, I got a great name for the park". They may not give you a bike for that, but they will enter your name in a draw for one. No age restrictions on this one. Yeah boi!

A Slamming Sucess!
A huge THANK YOU to all those that helped make the 2nd running of Sima Slamfest a success, especially to all our sponsors, in particular Pat Plemel and Rory Schalko for handling the shuttles all weekend. You Rock! As well as the MMR kids, Tamara and Mark - come on back anytime. Final mention to all the event organizers and volunteers, and yes, you the participants - not an event without either one of you. Mucho to all!
Onward with a bit of the nitty gritty of Slamfest 09. We had a total of 94 participants, with 65 competitors in the Downhill race, 30 competitors in the Cross Country race, and 80 skills camp participants. Awesome!
