5+ Hours of Light Festival

That's right folks - the 5+ Hours of Light Fat Tire Festival is back! Celebrate the winter solstice with your fat bike and your friends with a 24 Hours of Light style of race from sunrise to sunset on the shortest day of the year.

Here's what you need to know:

New Date: Saturday January 12. This is a fun event, more of a festival than a race. You can register as a solo rider or as a team to see how many laps of the course you can complete in 5 hours and 37 minutes (sunrise to sunset). Registration will take place on the morning of the event at 9:45am. That said, if you can only make it out for a lap or two in the middle of the day, please do! Start time: 10:06am. Course will be the same as last year as shown on the below map. If you want the trail to be awesome, please consider snowshoeing or biking the route this week to pack the snow in.

Location: Biathlon Range. This year we will be in the Bears Den (with a wood stove!).

Merry Christmakkah, happy solstice, and bonne année!

There will be some demo bikes available for folks to try out and generally speaking, fat bikers are pretty generous with sharing their rides. If you don't own a bike or can't borrow one, come up to the biathlon range and see what this is all about.

There will be delicious snacks and a light lunch. Please bring your own water. All this for $10 for members/$12 for non-members (membership for 2012) because cmbc elves are awesome. They also really love fat biking.

Same rules as 24 Hours of Light - NO ARTIFICIAL LIGHTS.

The only caveat is.... the weather:

The race will be cancelled or postponed if Environment Canada is showing -28 at 8am on the morning of the event. Based on discussion among the organizers today, we may even cancel earlier (Thursday/Friday) if the weather looks truly frightful.

Stay tuned to the facebook event page for updates.

We hope to see you on Saturday!
